Red Lion RL22G10-3W2V Submersible Well Pump, 1 HP, 3-Wire, 230V, 22 GPM

04/2025 -10 Year Update: This pump has provided reliable service for my irrigation system since I installed it in 2015. It has run about 12 hours a week, every week, since 2015 without any issues. It has far exceeded my expectations. This Red Lion pump replaced my old 20gpm pump perfectly which finally failed after 27 years. It appears to be well made but its not as substantial as the older pump it replaced being about 3/4 the weight. Its been working flawlessly for my irrigation system for about four weeks now but only time will tell in regards to durability. Be aware this pump is what is considered a three wire pump but current electrical standards dictate that it actually has four wires. The fourth wire is a ground wire which older three wire pumps do not have. I mention this because I had to dig up and replace about 60 feet of electrical conduit since the original wasn't quite large enough to accommodate the new 4 wire pump cable which runs from the well to the pump motor control box. This pump has about 4 feet of cable from the motor to make your wiring splices to. Any other wiring will have to be purchased separately. This pump also comes with a new motor control box which I added a lightning arrestor to since we have a lot here in Florida. This pump also has a built-in check valve but I installed a separate check valve above the pump but below the well's water level as I read is often recommended. The same installation as my old pump. I've read some reviews complaining about disappointing performance from their new pump and I noticed most of those installations involved fairly deep wells. This particular pump model is a low pressure high volume pump intended for shallow wells. My water level is only 20 feet below grade so the pump does not have to overcome much head pressure to produce a lot of volume at 30-50psi. This pump model will not perform well in areas where the water table is deep and it is not intended for those applications. Red Lion has other model pumps for deep wells.

Well, the day we installed the pump I was very pleased, it tested just fine and had great pressure once installed about 120' down. But the pumped stopped working the second day and so now I have to get someone out here to troubleshoot the problem. If the pump is the problem, I'll have to pay someone to pull it back out, wait another week to get a replacement and then pay to have the new one installed - again. I'll update as things develop.

Very good works great would definitely recommend to buy again it should last a lifetime.

We bought this product about a year ago. Here are my observations and thoughts on this pump: Pros Warranty- The initial pump we received failed after about a year, we contacted Red Lion and they arrange for a warranty replacement without any hassles. Performance- The pump performed as advertise, we use it to fill a 2000 gallon tank located about 340 ft up a hill. Parts- It came with everything you would need to install from heat shrink tubes to control box. Cons Durability- it failed after a year, started out turning itself off after a few minutes and then completely stopped working, however products do failed and the company stood behind its warranty so I only deducted one star for that.

The day I received this pump I pulled my old well pump and replaced it. The pump is working better than I anticipated. My well is pretty shallow. The pump is sitting at 60ft and the water begins at 11ft below the surface. I am only estimating the flow, but it appears to be over 25gpm. I am able to run 4 impact sprinklers with 7.1gpm nozzles without any problems and they are getting their full radius of spray. The electricity usage appears to be similar to the previous pump. All in all I would definitely recommend this pump to anyone who needs large amounts of water.

It was priced several $100.00 less than anything I could find locally and it came with the control box. I didn’t need the control box but it’ll come in handy sometimes in the future. The installation was a team effort and somewhat difficult. It involved setting up scaffolding, MacGyver approved rigging and a lot of muscle due to the weight of the old pump, 120’ of 1” galvanized pipe and other hardware. Local well companies quoted around $2500 for this service. This is actually a fun/interesting project if you enjoy a challenge. The flow rate was acceptable. Won’t be able to overall evaluate the quality of the pump until it’s in the ground for 10 plus years.

We are licensed plumbers, having worked on our own and many other water wells over the last forty years. We have installed many pumps, and this is the first one we've had to replace that did make it through the warranty period. We installed it exactly as the directions require, and it started failing at 18 months. When attempting to get warranty replacement, I was told to pull the well and add a sleeve, that this may not work (since I explained the pump is indeed inside a 6" casts iron casing as per their instructions), and if it doesn't work, then I am supposed to hire a well professional to come out, at my own cost, to attempt to diagnose what we already know is a problem, the motor is failing. Obviously, they have no intent on honoring their warranty so buyer beware!

A very solid product, and a 3yr warranty what is not to like! It may be more expensive compare to others, but is reliable and it does the job. Great performance on a deep well of 150' at 24-25 gallons a minute. It comes with it's own controller box included. It works as design and advertise by the company. I rather spend the money on something where I am going to do the job right just once!. Best of all it is built here in the USA!

Arrived on time pump wasn’t damaged but the box was wrecked I don’t know how it stayed it’s box and I paid $959 taxes included two weeks later it’s on sale for $850 I wish I could have known.

This product stopped working within a year and a half. Not worth the money.

This pump has great pressure and volume. So far working very good. Would buy another.

Very quick delivery, have not used as its a back up for my old pump which is 14 yrs old.
