I have tried other brands, both regular powder and extract forms so I do have experience to compare to. Normally it has a slightly sweet pleasant flavor If I had to guess I would say the roots this powder came from were not cleaned, meaning dirt got ground up with the root. Not only does it smell/taste like dirt/soil, especially when wet but it also is very very gritty, along with bitter and spice. To the manufacturer, a tip, Wash and dry the roots and then process it. Beyond that, while I normally respond well to the effects this root offers, this has no effect on me, disappointing even more so that it took over a month to arrive. Maybe i just got a bad batch
