Would this work with small seeds, like carrot seeds?

We haven't tried it with carrots seeds because they are so small. From our experience with seeds larger than carrots I'd say not very well.

Does it plant swede seeds

yes put the correct seed wheel in soil must be fine and dry with no stones

is this suitable for sowing grass seed?

No, it's designed for sowing single seeds at regular intervals in a line. Not the way to sow grass unless you've immense patience! And what it does, it does badly. I can't (& don't) recommend this to anyone for anything.

Would this also work for sunflower seeds and does it cover the seeds after planting ?

Yes it would set sunflower seeds and it leaves the seed in a little trench you have to cover useing a rack
