My wife and I live in Southeast Louisiana (New Orleans) and have to be prepared to evacuate our home because of an approaching hurricane. Because of numerous natural "roadblocks" around us that limit the number of possible evacuation routes out of the city, such as the Mississippi River, Lake Pontchartrain and other connected lakes, bayous, swamps and wetlands, it is of critical importance for us to pre-plan and know how to drive to our primary or secondary evacuation routes, as well as how to get to emergency back-up evacuation routes we can take to get out of the city. There are also only three possible evacuation directions in New Orleans; west (to family in Houston, TX), east (to family in Athens, GA), or north (to family in Louisville, KY). In case of bumper-to-bumper traffic jams that slow the progress of your evacuation to a crawl, or even a complete stop in the event of a multiple-vehicle accident, vehicles' engines overheating and stalling, or vehicles running out of fuel because the driver forgot to fill-up before leaving, having those multiple escape routes in all three directions is a must. To help with that process, I prefer to use the most current Rand McNally State road maps in their "Easy-to-Fold" style because they are covered with a heavy duty plastic that you can write on with erasable color markers to highlight the specific evacuation routes with one color for primary routes, a different color for secondary routes, and a third color for emergency escape routes that might have less traffic than the better known and regularly used routes. As my birthday cakes continue to crowd more and more candles on their top, growing brighter and brighter with the passing of time, my eyesight, unfortunately, seems to be getting dimmer and dimmer. I now need at least 3X power magnification to be able to see and read the road maps clearly, and if it is at night or overcast daytime weather when I'm using these maps. I took care of that situation when I ordered a MagniPros 3X, Almost Half-Page Viewing Area 4-1/5"x 7", LED Illuminated Page Magnifier with 12 Anti-Glare Dimmable LEDs. This page magnifier works very well for me, enlarging the small print typeface used on most maps so I can read them much more easily. The 12 Dimmable LEDs allow me to select the exact level of illumination for the existing conditions, whether in the darkness of night or reduced lighting when skies are overcast, without creating glare on the map and making it difficult to read. This MagniPros 3X Illuminated Page Magnifier is also a very convenient size, fitting easily into the Utility Pouch in which I also store and carry my Rand McNally State Road Maps, color erasable markers and other navigating tools. Powered by three common 1.5V AA batteries, either alkaline or rechargeable Ni-MH or Li-ion 1.5V AA batteries, this very affordable 3X LED Illuminated Page Magnifier is not expensive to use. It brightens my maps for these "getting older" eyes and dots all the "i's" and crosses all the "t's" for my magnified illumination needs. I am so glad I bought it. I like the various light enabling me to use the blue light or daylight or highlight to view pages or items. Nice pouch to protect glass and large enough to read in larger printed pages.

Love this magnifier. Love the little bag to keep it in to prevent scratches. Appreciate the detailed directions for changing batteries. Only improvement would be to make it a little sturdier, but it does work well and improves my diminished eyesight for reading books, newspapers, and other printed material. I hope it will last because the improvement is so helpful. I did have an issue while traveling, the unit was inadvertently turned on while in carry-on luggage. When I discovered it, the batteries were depleted and of course I had no additional batteries to replace them. User error.

I just wanted you to know how great your magnifier is. My sister has cancer and because of 4 years of chemo, she can't feel her hands and her eyesight has declined. Her favorite things to do during the day is sewing and reading before she goes to bed, something she hasn't been able to do for years. We live 6 hours away from each other and I've bought other products to help her and this is the one she raves about. It really helps me read at night because the lighting isn't sufficient in my bedroom and I've come to realize I need some magnification to supplement what my glasses can do for me. The screen is the perfect size for a hardcover or paperback book. The light source easily reaches the page and because I can't feel my hands this is so lightweight I don't have a problem holding it. I was surprised to find some bonuses in the box. I love the wipe cloth to keep the screen pristine and the small magnifying card with measurements in both inches and the metric system will help with my needle work. The instructions that come with it are easy to read and understand. THANK YOU SO MUCH for such a wonderful product! I don't usually review products I buy on Amazon. I believe when I buy something, and I buy a lot, it should work. But this magnifier goes above and beyond! I loved listening to her over the phone while she opened the box, she was so excited to be able to read in bed again. She hasn't been able to for years because of the chemo. You lose a lot of ability and independence when you have cancer or a handicap. Thank you for your wonderful product and making my sister so happy!

This is a lightweight magnifier with a clear, large viewing area. You do, however? have to hold it above the page as you read. I thought you laid it on the page so was disappointed I had to keep it steady and at consistent height while reading. If you have steady hands and aren't reading for a long time, it's fine.

This product is very good and helps with making the font bigger and with the LED lighting it helps with the eyes good. I’m really like this and I see how I can see better with it.

After putting in the batteries, I took a moment to realize where the switch was: it's the same as the dimmer wheel ... turn until it clicks off... Surprisingly distortion free across the field of view. I've grown up expecting Fresnel lenses to be OK in the middle of the field, but drops off legibility away from it. This is fairly flat all the way to the edge. It's very lightweight, which is what you need when holding it for any length of time, hence it's plastic. But looks smart. Very effective. The lights are variable, but not vital unless in poorly lit up area. So you can save on batteries for using them only when necessary. Being LED's I expect a very long life out of the batteries. All in all, a very good purchase. Well worth the money. Just a quick postscript: It is distortion free if held at the recommended distance, go further out and the image distorts. Keep it at 2"-4" (5-10cms max)

I will try to make this review easier to read by summarizing my likes and dislikes (more appropriately called "room for improvement" because they are not deal breakers for me). Likes: 1) The magnifier does not distort the text you are reading. This makes reading a pleasant experience. 2) The larger reading area helps improve my reading experience. 3) The LED lights work great at the highest setting (but I have more comments on this below). 4) The magnifier is very light even when using it with three batteries. 5) This came with a free lens cleaning cloth. I also got a free ruler/magnifier, which is very useful when you are on the go (e.g. reading food labels while in a supermarket). 6) The magnifier can also be used without turning on the LED light if you have enough lighting in your reading area. Dislikes ("room for improvement"): 1) I wish that the handle is a little larger. I also prefer to have a handle on both sides to give people the option to hold the magnifier with two hands for better balance. 2) I mentioned above the the LED lights work great at the highest setting. However, the lighting is not bright enough for reading when you are using the "in between" settings. Before buying this magnifier, I got the impression that the lighting can be used in 2 to 3 brightness settings but that was not what I experienced. 3) I wish that the magnifier came with a cloth bag for storage (or give us an option to buy a carrying case). My concern is that the lens can easily get scratched if you leave it lying around when not using it. Overall, I give this magnifier 4.5 stars based on my comments above. I will round it up to 5 stars for purposes of this review because I am happy with the magnifier overall. I strongly recommend it for people who have a hard time reading smaller texts.
