Finish Carpentry (For Pros, by Pros)

This book is well written and illustrated. At first I was disappointed by the fact that early in the book some of the illustrations are colored pencil drawings, but that was just an initial impression. Reading the book I was impressed by the helpfulness and useful tips it contained. Its not perfect, and its certainly not a thick bible answering all your questions about carpentry, but it was a great help nonetheless. I liked the tone and level of the detail - perfect for a mature amateur.

I've bought quite a few books by Taunton and everyone is very informative. everytime I look to buy a woodworking book now I always seek out the Taunton books first and using Amazons book previews makes choosing even easier. most of my books have been purchased from book closeouts and not always new books but you wouldn't know the difference. First class service. I wouldn't purchase my stuff from anywhere else other than using Amazon.

This book is American and details trimwork that is really high quality and how to approach undertaking it yourself if you want that style. It also highlights just how bad our new homes are finished in the Uk and that we actually accept such low standards. This book will make you look at skirting board and door trim in a different light.

Brilliant everything.. descriptions and pics. You are guaranteed to learn something from measuring to cutting. The book is so good my work colleague looked at it for five minutes and ordered it the same day. If you want your work to look very professional this is the book for you

Grea book, with load of american style finish techniques, very well eplained, easy to understand and loads of great tips for anyone experienced or not at all. I do recommend to have it in your library

Useful easy to read.

I just received this book so I haven’t finished it, but I have looked it over and started reading it. I am a professional carpenter and purchased this book because I love what I do, take pride in my work, and want to keep improving my finished product. It’s evident early on that this book has plenty of information and techniques that can be useful for professionals and DIYers alike. With that being said, I read a review here from a “man” that states this book is outdated. His reasoning, or evidence, was that the authors keep talking about pneumatic nailers. Apparently no one uses an air compressor anymore... I’m not sure what this guy was talking about, but the air compressor and pneumatic nailer is still the standard on job sites all over America. One last point is that carpentry doesn’t date. Codes may change, people may have different tastes over the years, but the carpentry is still carpentry. If you’re a carpenter, interested in doing some carpentry, or merely trying to walk the path of the lord and savior Jesus Christ I highly recommend you buy this book and subscribe to the Fine Homebuilding Magazine. Nice refrences and formula's. I bought as more of an idea book and it has some nice plans and walkthroughs

Any knowledge is good knowledge. As a master carpenter, I felt the book was helpful and especially for "weekend warriors", who think they know what they're doing. After 35 years and a third generation carpenter, not every book is exacting nor is carpentry. The book was straight forward, easily understood with excellent step by step photographs. Carpentry isn't something you learn in a year or even two and every bit of knowledge is helpful, my own library is proof.
