I think if you have to say the worst thing about The Force Awakens it is that someone has taken all your favourite Star Wars toys and is playing with them, and you are just watching. And that in a nutshell is most likely what causes most people the MOST grief about the film. For me my first "awareness" of the whole Star Wars saga was back in 1976 when we heard via newspapers and the odd TV news that "something" was coming across the Atlantic. And I was sitting in school and we'd just been given a new "book" catalogue and there was the paperback for Star Wars written by George Lucas (as I learned a few years later actually by Alan Dean Foster............)Loved the first (no 4). Actually read the book of Empire Strikes Back before I saw the film (another Dean Foster tie in) - those were the days - and although I liked Return of the Jedi I did think it had gone too "childish". In fact I saw it in a packed local cinema, now an OAP home, where at 17/18 I was the oldest person amongst a mass of 7 to 12 years olds. The target audience. Then. Now JJ Abrams and me are about the same age and he has tackled what most would not want to tackle. Something that has to "hit" me and my age group and something that will "hit" the new target market like my kids who have grown up with Dad saying "You HAVE to see this!"Yes we all suffered through the Lucas era of I, II and III. Not so much someone playing with your toys but actively selling new ones to you!And that is what is strange about this film. It does not SELL you anything. Old characters, new characters, old ships, new ships, but Disney have been surprisingly "adult" about it. Maybe in many years when we have Star Wars 27: Return of Jafar and His Crazy Sidekick..........So no spoilers and I did not see it on release, I waited for the Blu Ray, but it is worth it. And something else? It is a film that will be worth watching again, and it will get better with each viewing.Blu Ray quality is excellent - they really could not drop the ball. Abrams likes to move the camera and some of the shots in the aerial battles are stunners and will NEED to be watched again and again.I'd had a rubbish week with me losing a job through redundancy. This was something to look forward to. It made me forget. It did what Star Wars was meant to do.Roll on the rest, Disney.

It's ok but I was left a bit disappointed with some of it.
There were things I liked in this film and things I didn't. It's a reworking of the original film but with enough difference to make it worth watching. I don't mind watching a heroine running round learning to use the force. The action stuff was fun to watch. I thought "Oh great, they've created another desert planet", but I enjoyed watching Rey survive there. I liked the Millennium Falcon flying through the fallen Star Destroyer. I liked Supreme Leader Snoke, and I look forward to finding out more about him. I thought that was a rubbish death for Han Solo. I hope the other old characters aren't killed off in rubbish ways. Kylo Ren taking his mask off and revealing he was a young man underneath, where is the menace in that? The menace of Darth Vader was that we didn't see his face until Return of the Jedi. Granted that Kylo hasn't received his complete training and hasn't been physically corrupted by the dark side yet, he just wasn't menacing after he took off his mask. He gets in a rage when things don't go his way. That isn't menace. I like the idea of a planet turned into a base, but it sucks in a star and shoots it across interstellar space? I found the Death Star super weapon more believable. I hope the second film will be better.

Fantastic
Great movie. As a hardcore Star Wars fan I was so annoyed when Disney killed the stories of the expanded universe, which were the original stories based after ROTJ. I loved them and still do (The Thrawn Trilogy of books are amazing so go read them) so I was not looking forward to this movie. At all. But I went to the cinema on opening day, like I did for the other SW movies. (Prequels, I was born in 85 so didn't have the pleasure of seeing the original trilogy on release years, and yes I do love the prequels, unpopular or not) As I watched episode 7 I immediately changed my attitude. It was amazing. The acting was the best it ever has been in a Star Wars film, (Daisy Ridley was excellent, despite what that disrespectful sexist clown in one of the negative comments said) a true Star Wars fan can appreciate this movie. Even me, a hardened original EU fan. Do I prefer the force awakens to the original post ROTJ stories of the old expanded universe? No. I grew up with those stories and characters, Jaina and Jason Solo,THE OLD REPUBLICS Revan, Nihilus etc. But is it worthy of the title of "Episode 7" worthy of being the follow on from Jedi? Yes! It's an amazing movie. If you're a casual Star Wars fan (movies only) then you'll enjoy it, even a lot of non Star Wars fans would enjoy this film. If like me you're a die hard Star Wars crazy person I'd be surprised if you don't like this film. It was great. If you're a complete film snob that thinks nothing is as good as the originals then to me you're not even a fan. This was an amazing movie. I definitely recommend it.

THE STORY THAT MADE US ALL BELIEVE ONCE MORE
What to say about this that hasn't already been said? On account of this particular review being being written as Rogue One is Currently (in true STAR WARS Style) ) resisting all attempts to remove it from top spot in the Cinema charts? (apart from the fact I've only just spotted this request to write a review as well) This seems a little irrelevant but here goes anyway! A Long time ago, in A galaxy Far Far Away! A "Salvage Scrap worker" ends up becoming the latest recruit to join the Rebel Alliance.her droid (introducing BB8) it seems contains ( unbeknownst to all but a few - a vital part of a hologram map,, which needs to be delivered to the alliance..Pursued across the Galaxy by a force of Stormtroopers led by a new Arch Villain, Kylo Ren the , the highest ranked of the Ren Knights.. What follows is one rip-roaring adventure, in the best traditions of Start Wars, complete with the imagery and fine array of villains and odd characters which only Star Wars seems able to produce,. The battle is on to retirieve the information that will prove yet again vital in rhe battle against a new Death Star (it's many years after the original war against the Imperial Order) Daisy Ridley quite correctly draws a lot of the focus on this film but there are a few others also worthy of note, not least Andy Serrkis as The Master,.I Remember, before this was even released for the screen, there were a lot of worries, due to the fact that it was the First STAR WARS to be produced by Disney, ho would they handle something live and non-animated, and as well loved as Star wars? It was, a couple of times wondered if it wouldn't be better, given that the Clone Wars and a Phantom Menace were hardly box office magnets if it was time to move on, then came the news of Harrison Ford's serious accident on set, (which you can see no hint of at all in the film, not even a specific scene where you can say "Ah that must have been where it happened") and you began to think "maybe this is jinxed and it not meant to be" but Full credit to JJ Abrams and his team, , they have produced a stunner well worthy of joining the first three episodes at the top of the best seller charts. NO SPOILERS, so don't worry, you won't find out anything unexpected, before you watch it, but do prepare yourselves for a bit of a shock when you see a couple of familiar faces, I know if's over 30 years since a New Hope was screened, and therefore we're all obviously thirty years older ourselves, but it was still a massive surprise to see how old they actually looked. Finally, What was with Mark Hamill's Appearance? Was he paying homage to Ricky Tomilnson's TV Character Jim Roylae?

One of my favourite films ever
Let me first begin by admitting that I never grew up loving Star Wars, I only caught them when they were on TV and I'd watch them, not engrossed in just how important they would be to many, many, many fans.Fast forward to a trailer I saw a while before the release date....and I was totally and utterly blown away by how stunning this film looked, so I promptly booked my ticket. And I have not regretted my decision. I sat in that cinema, surrounded by dedicated Star Wars fans, and was mesmerised by the set pieces, the characters, the action, everything about it was just.....stunning. I came out of the cinema, found my then cinema buddy, and we couldn't stop talking about it all the way to the train, and even then we couldn't stop gushing about this amazing piece of cinema. In the coming months I saw the film another 2 times, and loved it even more. By this time I'd managed to catch the original trilogy, and even those I absolutely love to bits.On Bluray release day I got home to find my preordered item waiting. I promptly changed from work clothes and yup, the film went straight into the player......and stayed there for a month.I highly recommend this film to everyone who wants a fun, very funny, very action packed film to watch on a Sunday afternoon. You won't be disappointed.I am already waiting with excitement for next year........."Chewy, we're home!'

Good action but for characterisation of Rey and Finn
First the good: It's everything that the original Star Wars was with the added judicious use of CGI. The action is fast paced and best of all the screen isn't cluttered with advertorials for merchandising. (I'm convinced the idea of the Jar Jar Binks character of Episodes I to III was merchandising rather than a characterisation driven) In fact you could say the same for Episodes I to III and for the Ewoks in Episode VI which were clearly teddy bear substitutes. (Would tree-swinging arboreal creatures have evolved short stumpy arms and legs?).[SPOILER ALERT]: Also the idea of a Stormtrooper turned renegade is always interesting. Now the bad i.e. why its 3 instead of 5 stars: Much has already been said about the Jedi Skills which seem to come too quickly to the Rey character. I've read theories and now seen The Last Jedi and these criticisms sadly have come true, i.e. that Rey is a 'Mary Sue' trope. I was disappointed with the Finn character that showed so much promise. There was none of the difficulty or struggle that the character was going through internally. (For an example see the T'iuk character in the SG1series or the Kurt Russell character in the 1998 film Soldier) The suggestion was that he was conditioned or drugged. He seems to adapt too quickly to freedom given his stormtrooper upbringing. Perhaps more of this will come out in the next episode. This is typical of JJ Abrams; high on delightful action and pace but sometimes leaving character development and plot holes to be filled by audience imagination and asking for suspension of disbelief .Still overall a great film and I was waiting for the sequel (... until I actually saw the sequel but that's another review)

The Force is still strong!
I finally saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Blu-ray with all the Bonus Features. Did I enjoy the film? Yes, I did. Will I watch it again? I honestly don’t know…maybe I will because of the new Jedi, Rey, Hans Solo, Princess Leila, Chewbacca, C-3PO and some of the others from the original cast. Maybe even BB-8. I actually liked the little guy, though I knew he was created for the kids in the audience and to replace R2-D2 during the course of the film.Did I mention that Spoilers would be in this review? Well, they are. Don’t read any further if you don’t want to be disappointed when viewing the film.I will agree that that this movie was somewhat similar to the original Star Wars film from the seventies, which I saw at the theater. That didn’t bother me. I understood that after such a long time away from the Star Wars franchise that the new movie would have to include similarities as well as new folder for the viewers. In the Bonus Features, J.J. Abrams mentions this and the desire not to disappoint the original fans of the movie.I also have to admit that my primary interest in the films have been the Light-saber battles between the Jedi and the Dark Side. I remember thinking after seeing the original Star Wars that Lucas has something going with the Light-sabers, but there simply weren’t enough of them in the final fight sequence. The film was more about the airplane battles and the Death Star. That changed with The Empire Strikes Back and the battle between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader at the end. That was an epic battle sequence that left its impression on me till the third movie was finally released. It wasn’t until years later with the fourth film, a prequel, which I once again was blown away in the fight sequence between Darth Maul, Liam Neeson, and Ewan McGregor. That not only surprised me, but had me rooting for the Jedi. Of course, l loved Darth Maul and his stick Light-saber and the cartwheels he did during the fight. That’s about all I can tell you about the three prequels. I remember very little about them other than the fight scenes in the first one.I had hoped that this new film, The Force Awakens, would have similar attributes, and it did to a certain degree; but, certainly not as much as I wanted.Everyone should know the general theme of the movie by now. A new Jedi is about to arise to fight the resurgence of the Dark Side. The new Jedi isn’t who we expect. I gave it away at the start of this review so you already know who it is.Yes, it’s the female scavenger, Rey, who turns out to have the Force inside of her and does battle with Ren, whose grandfather was Darth Vader. I won’t say more than that on this particular subject. Have to leave some surprises. Of course, the secret of who Rey actually is and who she was waiting for on the planet of Jakku is a mystery. I’m wondering if she was Hans and Leila’s daughter, though that was never mentioned. For some reason I expected more from Ren, who was representing his grandfather in the film. I knew why Darth Vader wore his helmet. It was because of the wounds to his body and breathing regulator inside the helmet. There was no reason given for Ren wearing his own, rather unique-looking helmet, other than that he looked cool and definitely more powerful when in it. Without the helmet on, he appeared to be nothing more than a bratty teenager, which was displayed in his unexpected bursts of anger throughout the movie. Even without training in Light-saber fighting, there was no way I could see Rey not defeating him in the final battle. She was simply too tough of a person to give in to losing a fight. She was certainly tougher than Ren.No, Hans Solo won’t be coming back. Not after what he experienced at the hands of Ren and then the long drop into the abyss.Though it appeared that Jinn (the former Storm Trooper) or Oscar Isaac’s character of the cocky fighter pilot for the resistance might be the new Jedi, I knew it had to be Rey. That wasn’t just good guessing on my part. It was because her character was so strong and believed in justice and fairness that I had me drawn to her from the very beginning. And, that made the ending even more special to me when she offers the original light saber that Obi-Wan Kenobi had possessed to the last Jedi alive from the past. I have to admit that the Jedi’s uniform was immaculate, which made me wonder where the local Dry Cleaner was located on the Island of the Jedi. Still, the scene gave me goose bumps. It said to me, “Here’s your Light-saber. Now, it’s time to kick some butt.”Certainly, the Special Effects were awesome to see. Those alone will blow the minds of most fans. Everything looked real even though you knew they weren’t. The airplane battles in space were done to perfection, the creatures looked real, the locations were ideal, and the multitude of Storm Troopers appeared to be ready for battle.During the last five months, this film has received an astronomical amount of positive and negative reviews. I doubt that will affect the filming of the next movie, and there will definitely be another one. The reason is that this movie alone grossed over two billion dollars at the Box Office. This movie may be the most expensive ever done, but now every tent-pole film will be trying to reach the two billion dollar mark when it comes out.The Bonus Features are to die for. An Behind-the-Scenes look at the making of the film with over two hours of Special Features. This gives you a pretty good idea of why certain decisions were made and others weren’t. I’m not sure why Mark Hamill was given second billing under Harrison Ford when he is only the film for about one minute. I could see a “and Mark Hamill” at the end of the billing for the major characters, but not second. Maybe it had to do with clout and needing him in the film. I think the next film will probably justify it.So, four or five stars for this review? I would say because of everything involved in the making of the film that five stars is the way to go. Some of the fans will love the movie, while others won’t. I believe every bit of the 250 million dollars can be seen up on the screen. And, there was no Jar Jar Binks in this movie. That alone is worth a 5-Star rating!
