Solid, reliable, a must have for every cyclists home tool box
Anyone just starting to tackle minor maintenance on their bike is likely to start with replacing chains. Even though many chains now come with quick-links making removing/replacing them a breeze, whenever you buy a new chain it's probably longer than whatever is on your bike and you'll need to remove a few links. There are inexpensive versions of this type of tool, though those aren't nearly as rugged and may wind up damaging the chain. I go through 4-5 chains a year, have replaced over 50 now, and this is my second chain tool from Pro Tools. These are excellent quality, work perfectly and I'd consider this one of those "forever" tools you'll never have to retire (and the only reason I bought another one is for my travel tool kit).

Great quality
Much better quality than the marginally cheaper chain tools on Amazon. Worked perfectly and built to last.

Great product
Excellent product. I have been using this for the last year and have really enjoyed using it. Easy to hold and operate and looks great. The only problem I ran into was when working on a really old bike (late 40's or early 50's maybe) that had an original chain with very large link plates. These older chain link plates did not fit into the cradle of this tool. I only mention this in case you work on older bikes. Otherwise this is a fantastic tool.

Not compatible with Shimano 12-Speed HG.
Or at least, not TRULY compatible. I did manage to split the new chain, but it mangled one set of outer plates. It had to be wedged in and then squeezed in with the pin before it finally started pushing the actual pin through. Luckily, the mangled outer plates are on the section of chain I didn't use. On the other hand, the tools that specifically advertise being compatible are 5x the cost so this is as good as it's going to get. If you guys just open up the vertical spacing just a touch, this tool will work perfectly on these chains.

Not good in the long run
It's okay for a couple of months but then it breaks I've had four of them and they've all broken within 2 months or less

Not universal
Removed the pin on my chain but cradle is too narrow. It is sturdy because when then chain was jammed in the tool I had to pound on it with a hammer to remove the chain and it did not break. Damaged the chain but the tool was still okay. Would think twice before using it again.

Works as intended
This bike chain removal tool is very sturdy. Had use it several times and don't see anything bent unlike the cheaply made tool. The design ensure the chain sits tightly on the end for the pin to be pressed out. The only down sides with this design is (1) you can't see the pin coming out completely thru the hole on the other side of the tool. Have to feel the friction of the pin on the other end when you rotate the bar. The other bike chain tool design with the fingers at the middle, you can see the pin coming off and not pushed it all the way out. (2) pushing the pin back in is a tight fit. The chain thickness plus the pin sticking out means that you have to back the screw all the back. This bike chain tool is probably not for first timers. The tool now has a place in my tool box. Next time would get the pliers tool for my new bike chain with quick link.

Quality & functionallity galore.
The design of this tool is perfect for breaking a bike chain. I haven't tried all the breaker tools available. but this is absolutely the best design I've used so far.

After putting a on a chain the other week and the pin on my old one deciding to just into the unit I was after a new one and after a little bit of research saw that people were using this with the quality being good, so thought I would take the plunge and purchase one my self. I am not disappointed with this at all, very well made and easy to use, even with my large hands. Everything is well made and you can tell that from the feel of the item, looking at where the pin is looks like that won't move and also the hooks for the chain look like they won't bend or break like some have in the past. Small enough to take on a ride, fits in your pocket or saddle bag etc and not heavy. Overall a great item and I am very impressed with this think I will be buying some more items from this company (My track pump has just broken).
