Reading Detective® A1

I really enjoy how helpful this is for my students. I’ve had the grade 7-8 book forever and loved using it. This year I am working with lower 6th graders so I went back and bought the book for them. It has great practice with both fiction and nonfiction passages. I especially like that it asks for evidence that support the answer choice.

We added this to my 5th graders morning routine and it was just what we needed. I love that the excerpts start of using text from popular books… many she has read and immediately connected to. I find the detailed explanations in the answer key to be very useful when looking at a “better” answer. I chose this because it equips the child to build the skill of finding text evidence and really thinking through the questions asked. We started with A1 and it was the right fit for my 11 year old.

This has been great for our teenager struggling with reading comprehension.

So far so good. My son is on the autism spectrum and although he reads very well he has difficulty making inferences etc and always does poorly on standardized test. This is the first book I’ve found that passages that are interesting, of reasonable length and questions similar to what they ask on test like the FSA. The answers in the back of the book are very detailed so we can discuss what the question is asking and why the answer is wrong/correct without any guessing on my part. Definitely going to purchase more products from this company.

...but I have found a few errors; make sure to check the answer keys as you review with the kids. It really helped my kids grasp the concept of citing evidence as the new common core curriculum requires. Great addition to my classroom.

I HOMESCHOOL AND MY KIDS HAVE USED THE READING DETECTIVE BOOKS FOR 3 YEARS NOW. WE ARE NOW DOING 4TH AND 5TH GRADE AND THEY SCORE ABOVE GRADE LEVEL EVERY YEAR ON THEIR SBA's. I ACCREDIT MUCH OF THIS SUCCESS TO THE READING DETECTIVE WORKBOOKS.

Instead of having your child use a multiple choice and/or answering recall questions, this book trains your child to extract the information from the text. This book also helps your child to make inferences and use the text to provide evidence. I will absolutely purchase more books from this company and hope to use it with my students.

My child's reading comprehension has gone up for the reading tests she's taken in the past year. This book is excellent. The Math Detective one is also helpful.
