While I’m very familiar with the performance of sharp vs dull blades, I admittedly have never used a strop for sharpening my knives before. Traditionally I’ve always used the kind with dual ceramic rods or metal blades that you drag the knife through). While those varieties work well in a quick pinch, I always noticed excessive scratching / wear on the side surfaces of the knife after using them. This suggested they were a more abrasive than desired and could be wearing the edges down even more. I have always cringed when using those styles of sharpeners, for fear of actually damaging the edges. After researching more about the process of using a strop, I began to understand the befits of this practice over others. Fast forward to this purchase - The first three knives I sharpened with this strop were ones that I never wanted to run through my other sharpeners for various reasons. A couple of them are thin, single bevel blades, which do not mix well with a double bevel sharpener. The third is a hand-forged blade with a convex edge, which was gifted to me by my sister, and I want to preserve as best as possible. After using this strop, as directed by the included instructions, I was more than surprised to see how sharp I was able to get all three of these knives without much practice. I have absolutely no fear of damaging my knives with this setup, due to the fact that the leather is meant to conform to the blade shape, reducing the risk of deforming the edges. The quality and craftsmanship of this product were just as expected based on the pictures - nice thick pads with uniform grain combined with the well shaped and sanded wood paddle. I would highly recommend using this type of sharpening tool over others if you want to preserve the quality, shape, and sharpness of your blade!!! On top of it all, there was a REAL hand-written note in the box from the person that packaged this stop kit. I found that to be quite a special touch - especially in today’s product market, which is heavily saturated with computer automated packaging. A+ in my book!!

This is a large size with a solid wood base and good leather. This is the one you want to put a razors edge on your blades. I use this to put shaving sharp edges on my hatchets and short handled axes. It keeps my chef's knife too sharp :)

I would definitely recommend this strop. I was having trouble keeping a consistent edge on some of my larger carving tools due to the slim nature of most strops that come with them. I decided to get this one because of the width and I’m glad I did. This thing with the included compounds did the trick. Not only does it look great, but it’s very sturdy. I don’t feel like I’m going to break it when I use it. The leather seems to be very good quality too. All in all I’d say if you’re looking for a good strop for a great price, this is the one.

Well-crafted product and easy to use. This is my second one, not due to any defect or premature wear, but simply because the original was "confiscated" by a member of the family. Highly recommend, great results on my blades.

I am always surprised when I get a high quality product via the internet. In many ways, this is a simple tool, a flat paddle of wood with uniform pieces of leather glued to either side. On the other hand, it is a complex object, the grip has to be comfortable, the two wide faces of the paddle have to be flat, the wood stable, and the pieces of leather have to be of uniform thickness, unblemished, and flat. Hutsels Leather Strop more than satisfies all three of th sets of criteria that I listed. Only time will tell if the wood is stable, but I am familiar enough with wood to anticipate it will perform well. This is an excellent product that I would buy again.

El cuero de búfalo se siente firme, un tanto áspero, y da una sensación de arrastre muy buena y controlada. Por otro lado, su lado fino es realmente bueno, ya que me ayuda a darme cuenta si el filo está mal o si hay rebabas que no logré quitar. Además, la madera de fresno es de muy buena calidad. Super quality strop for finishing off your sharpened knives from sharp, to razor sharp. Just a few strokes on the strop and all grittiness has gone on the blade, leading to a super smooth cut. It doesn’t matter how hard you work sharpening on a wet stone / oil stone etc, without a good hone, they will never be truly sharp and smooth cutting. This product really polishes the blade to a super high finish, and can be used to maintain the blade between sharpening. I don’t know how I managed without this in my kitchen and on my pocket knives.

This review is for the Hutsuls 3x9" wooden strop. It is used for fine edge polishing of your knives. It is a solid piece of ashwood covered on two sides with leather with one side being smooth and the other unfinished like a typical belt but thinner. I believe the leather will last a long time and if you did manage to wear it out its easy enough to get a piece of leather or old belt to replace it. The handle is comfortable to hold and the weight is nice though you'd use this on a flat surface so not really noticeable. The ash wood is sanded smooth, but otherwise appears unfinished so I may get some stain for it as it's pretty plain looking. The package also included two small brick polishing compounds - standard green and a finer white which are applied to completely cover the leather. Quite a nice strop and I'm sure I will get many years of use with it.

Good quality item that is easy to hold when sharpening my knives. This is definitely an upgrade from my last strop and the difference in the sharpness of my tools is noticeable. I would definitely buy this again.
