Ecolink Z-Wave PIR Motion Detector Pet Immune, White (PIRZWAVE2.5-ECO)

I had concerns about this unit when I purchased it -- a number of reviews reported a significant lag between motion detection and "lights on". But this is not an issue if you have a Smartthings Hub. Here is how I use this detector: We have a hallway leading from the master bedroom in our house that gets very dark at night and we wanted to turn on a light as soon we left the bedroom. We also wanted the light to stay on for 7 minutes and then turn off again. No problem! This was MUCH easier than I expected.I set this up using the Smart Lights application in Smartthings in about 30 seconds. It is setup to turn on the designated light when motion is detected, but only between 11 pm and 7 am, and then turn off after 7 minutes. I know a lot of people seem to have struggled to do this with other tools, but this was very straightforward and it works great.I had concerns about reviews that indicate a significant time lag between detection and "lights on", but I am happy to say it is not an issue with the Smartthings Hub. The lights turn on nearly instantaneously when the motion is detected (the detector flashes a green light when motion is detected). There is not a 3-5 second delay as others have reported (at least not with the Smartthings Hub).My only complaint is with the pairing process, which is poorly described in the installation guide that came with the unit. If you are a Smartthings user, you need to initiate the "add a thing" process BEFORE you remove the battery tape. It took me three tries before I figured this out. May be worth docking this one star -- but the unit works great and it is a 5 star product other than the documentation glitch.And hey! It is Z-wave plus so it strengthens and extends my z-wave network in the house. No more bumping into things or stepping on toys in the dark. Love this product!

I've been using these for maybe 8 years or so now. I've got 3, one has never broken. Batteries last great, over a year, maybe two? I use the jumper on the special mode to always send a motion alert, no delays (which uses more battery). Two of these are in out buildings, not terribly far away from the house, but connect directly to my hub, no hops. If I needed more motion detectors, I'd probably still buy these even though they aren't the latest LR800 series, they are Z-Wave Plus. The only issues I've had is when the windows are open and the wind is blowing, this will set them off. But that happens with all PIR detectors and has nothing to do with this particular one. The ones in my out buildings never have a false alarm (as there are no open windows ever).

The sensor had fast response and has rock solid connectivity. Unfortunately, the mount is quite visible when installed. Unit is small than the Bosch sensor it replaced. It does NOT offer a temperature sensor in this sensor.

I've been using this motion sensor, in and outside as part of my (Vera) z-wave system and thought I would give some use-case feedback for people looking to use these in different ways. First of all, you can 100% use these outside! Here is what you need to consider:1) They are NOT waterproof, so plan on using them in a semi protected way. I have mounted mine under soffets, door overhangs, etc. and that has proven to be just enough to keep them dry inside. They can handle damp and misty environments all day long, just not direct soaking rain.2) Direct sunlight will trigger these things like mad, especially things like, say a shadow from a branch in the breeze creating a dark to light scenario, so keep that in mind. I use these for multiple purposes outside, for instance, to alert me that someone in my driveway... and that either triggers a light inside to tell me, or at night, turns all of my outdoor lights on. But sunlight will wreak havoc on this plan. Where I do have one in direct sunlight, I have it so it only arms at night.3) Bugs love these. Clean them out regularly, I swear every spider in the universe thinks these are the best house ever.4) Battery life has been excellent outdoors, I mean to the tune of years. I set these so that they are small animal tolerant (yes, you can do this via a physical switch inside the unit) and they are remarkably accurate. They are very adept at covering large swaths of my yard out to 100' in a large arc. If you are a car, human, deer, or coyote, you will be detected!5) The failure rate of these has been a factor... I have definitely had to replace a few of these outside, maybe 2 over the course of 8 years.. so keep replacements on hand.6) Why do this vs. just motion sensor lights? The versatility of these for motion detection just can't be had from a simple light, these can trigger any type of alert, routine, or action.. which takes exterior home control to the next level.Bottom line, used outside the right way and within their limits, these things are awesome!

I have purchased 9 of these motion detectors over the last year for use in my home security system. Based on my personal experience and online research I've done, these are the best Zwave plus motion detectors available in this price range that will interface with Smartthings. However, there is a dark lining around this silver cloud. My experience has been that a higher than normal percentage of these units run "hot"...out of the 9 units I purchased 2 of them ran hot making them susceptible to false alarms and not suitable for use in my security system. In one case I swapped a "hot" sensor (one that was creating frequent false alarms) with one of my other identical sensors and my false alarms stopped immediately. I know it is possible to reduce the sensitivity on these units and I honestly didn't test that option because I have a problem with reducing the sensitivity of my security system because of what appears to be poor calibration of the sensor...and when other identical units work just fine. Lastly, good luck on getting any kind of warranty service if you have a faulty sensor. I have tried for several weeks to contact them myself and through Amazon as well and neither of us can find any contact information for the manufacturer. There is no information on obtaining warranty service in their manual either. So my advice is that while these are worth purchasing because the unit it is probably the best one on the market and the price is good, be aware that a higher than normal percentage of them run "hot" and might make them unsatisfactory for security system use due to false alarms. Also if you have to replace one I don't give you good odds on going through their warranty. I hope you have better luck than me but most likely you'll be eating the cost, since their warranty service is nowhere to be found.

This this is fantastic! First, it's tiny, and attractive and unassuming at the same time. Second, the battery life is excellent; we've had it for 2.5 months now and the battery is still reading 99%. And it's powerful - even set to just medium sensitivity, it's reliably (and instantly) detecting motion 35-40 feet across the room.I considered buying a Nest or an Ecobee 4 to try to get a working motion-based thermostat for our family room, which is 40' across diagonally. With the Nest, though, you can't add external motion sensors, and the built-in one only goes 15'. And with the Ecobee4, it has all those little motion sensors, but those are only designed to go in different rooms; the software is not flexible enough, so it doesn't work well if you put them all in one large room.I ended up buying this (just one), plus a SmartThings hub and a really basic Honeywell Z-wave thermostat (RTH6580WF). To hook it all up I used Rboy's Motion-Based Thermostat SmartApp, which I think I paid $30 for(?), but I consider it well worth the money. We now have a completely motion-based thermostat -- but the range is the full 40' room. I'm thrilled with the final system. Our family room is always warm when we're in it, and it's never wasting energy when we're not.

!!BUYER BEWARE!!I was excited to get this motion detector as the ratings and reviews were great but I am sorely disappointed..For starters they are big and goofy looking but I was prepared to live with that if they were reliable and worked as expected. It turns out that these things are very poor performers. I have one installed in my outside foyer which is completely covered so it's not exposed to direct sunlight nor rain.It is also connected to a Hubitat Elevation C-7 hub. It is not the HE because when it does detect motion (as can be seen by the flash of light) it immediately activates the action it's supposed to via the hub and it's almost instantaneous. The problem is that sometimes you can jump up and down and the actual sensor simply doesn't detect motion which is specifically what I bought it for.I don't have a problem with a product failing with some of it's features but this is a motion detector so there is nothing I require other than detecting motion, so to fail at that means a complete failure for me.Based on my experience I DO NOT recommend these!---update---the manufacturer never even bothered contacting me which says a lot about them as a company. a complete waste of my money..

These have been great after some caveats that were more just learning and trial and error on my behalf. We have two cats and these do not pick them up, as long as you mount them up high (and put a jumper over the pins for small or medium pet as it shows in the documentation). At first I was mounting them next to a light switch and if you have animals that jump up on the counter and pass right in front of it they will set it off no matter what the setting. After much trial and error I learned the best place to put them is up high in the corner. We have 9 foot ceilings and they don't have a problem. We do have a pretty large kitchen and I finally gave up and used two to cover the whole thing. I highly recommend 3M picture hanging strips with the plastic velcro. This will help you find the perfect placement without damaging the walls. I did see another gentleman's comment that 12 foot is probably too high. Additionally if they seem too slow, blame your zwave controller first. Especially Smart Things. I spent about 8 months with a Smart Things hub. For the most part I liked it. It was easy to use and design your system. But I ultimately stopped using it because it is not fast enough to use motions sensors to turn on lights. If you are happy using the smart lighting smart app to always turn on the light with motion with very few conditions, then it all stays on the controller. But if you use a community developed app and you notice the light blink on the motion sensor but your lights don't turn on until you get across the room, it is likely because your controller is sending everything to the cloud to evaluate conditions and waiting for a response back. For geeks like me you'll never be satisfied with the built in apps and all the community developed apps, I found out late in the game, always run from the cloud in Smart Things. The promise of the v2 hub was that things were supposed to run locally, but only apps that Samsung decides are worthy to include. For most things, not a big deal, but not for motion sensors if you are using them to control night lights. Also a lot of people complain about how long it takes for the motion sensor to reset and detect motion again. Just put another jumper on the TEST pins. This is supposed to be for testing and they claim it drains battery, but I'm satisfied with the battery life so far. The default setting resets after something like 4 minutes. This is ok for occupancy sensing for security, but if you are using it to turn on night lights and don't want to keep them on for 5 minutes jumper test and it resets quite quickly. The non-standard batteries are a bummer, but I think they are a trade off for longevity and size.

These are great motion sensors. Paired up very quickly with Smartthings hub and work great. Very quick and responsive. Great battery life so far. Used to have all Zigbee sensor that would constantly disconnect and these Z-Wave sensors are much better.

This is a reliable sensor and connects well with Smartthings. With tweaking you can reduce the minimum reset by adjusting the jumper to TEST, however, if you are looking for them to be part of your smart home automation to turn on lights immediately then these are not the right motion sensor for you as it can take 3-5 seconds to react, by which time you likely will have turned on the light and the automation benefit is lost.If you are connecting to smarrthings I would download and install through the IDE a new device handler that adds battery and tamper tiles and also allows you to configure some aspects of the device like delays.
