DOW CORNING 550 Fluid is a high-performance, complex silicone oil fluid product, and its characteristics and performance cannot be compared or matched by any standard polysiloxane oil.
DOW CORNING 550 Fluid. Dimethyl, phenylmethyl siloxane, trimethyl-terminated, CAS Number 63148-52-7 (Synonyms: Polyphenylmethyldimethylsiloxane; Phenylmethyl polysiloxane), 125 cSt Viscosity at 25°C (approx. ISO 100 equivalent, similar consistency/thickness to SAE 30 motor oil).

FEATURES:
- Low volatility Serviceable temperature range of -40°C up to 230°C in open systems, and up to 315°C in closed systems.
- Low kinematic viscosity of 125 cSt (centistokes, cs, mm²/sec) at 25°C.
- Thermal stability - exceptional high-temperature stability during continuous use at 232°C (450°F); these materials are also suitable for low-temperature applications requiring pour points as low as -57°C (-70°F).
- High Flash Point, Low flammability – Flash point of 315°C (599°F), a fire point of 343°C (650°F) minimum and an autoignition temperature in excess of 482°C (900°F).
- Excellent heat transfer characteristics - Because of its excellent oxidation and temperature resistance, it can be used to transfer heat; heat conductivity is relatively constant over a wide temperature range.
- Flat viscosity temperature curve.
- Good dampening / compressibility characteristics - The relatively high compressibility of these fluids makes them ideal for use in shock absorbing and motion dampening applications.
- Good oxidation and gumming resistance.
- inertness - inherently inert, resulting in no corrosion of metals or adverse effect on the seals commonly used in the construction of snubbers, valves and instruments.
- Ability to swell silicone rubber.
