You can't go wrong with DMT's stones. Honestly, I'd say they're the best bang for buck quality diamond sharpening stones. If you're really on a budget and can only afford one DMT stone, go for this one, the fine can honestly get you by for re-profiling, and if you press a little lighter or alternate, you can do a little polishing up. It'll give you a pretty darn good edge especially after stropping. But I'd definitely recommend getting the Course, Fine, and Very Fine DMT stones and follow it up with a decent strop and boom, you have a great beginner friendly yet still super great sharpening setup that'll last you years and years P.S. DO NOT buy cheap whetstones off amazon, they're trash, trust me. Not only are whetstones just generally not as beginner friendly as diamond stones IMO but the cheap whetstones sold on amazon are just straight up trash that's been flipped from Alibaba and I'd rather sharpen my knives with concrete slabs off the street. If you wanna go for Whetstones, I'd definitely go with Shapton, they're about the DMT of the Whetstone world which is to say great quality at a good price.

I've used this for a while now and can confidently say that this is worth every penny. I got the "fine" geade and it can put an edge on or (with effort) even reprofile a blade. It lasts forever compared to a traditional wet stone and weighs a ton - be aware that it is a bit thin so chunky handed people would benefit from raising the stone a little for ease of use. I have had no issues with the diamond surface pitting or failing in any way. Buy with confidence because they are great!

I was initially worried that sharpening blades would be either terribly difficult or require a great deal of time. Luckily I found neither to be the case. I isn't something you want to rush through as it requires a steady hand (and you're holding a sharp knife), but I find that I'm able to sharpen a blade to better than new condition in about 10 minutes. I've lost the proper angle a couple of times so if you look very closely at the blade you can see a few places where the edge extends a little too far onto the body of the blade, but a mistake like this is not something one would notice holding the blade at a normal distance and more importantly does not affect the function. I found that this coarseness is perfect, it doesn't take very long and puts a very sharp edge on the blade. I also got the extra fine, but find that I never use it since this one is faster and I can't differentiate between the edge produced by the two blocks.

Good quality, I bought it slightly too small, but I sharpened several things and it worked out great!
