Does this come with a sleeve or something to cover the sharp edge?

no. It comes with a molded plastic cover but you have to tear it up to get it off of the axe. I use a strip of duct tape to cover the edge when not in use.

Is this sharp enough to chop down some fire woods in the woods?

As with any axe, you will need to sharpen it frequently. When you get it, the answer is "Ha ha ha, definitely not, lord no." Buy a file and a sharpening puck.

OK... not sharp as delivered... but does it stay sharp once it is sharpened or loose its edge quickly?.

The blade edge stays sharp once properly sharpened unless you are chopping on hard wood like maple or oak
