Wall-hanging icon depicting a close-up of Our Lady of Vladimir's face (also known as "Theotókos of Vladimir"). It is a copy of the world-known Byzantine icon dating back to the 12th century. Painted in Constantinople and now enshrined in Moscow, the original Virgin of Vladimir, to which this reproduction is inspired, is among the most venerated Orthodox icons in the world. The Theotókos (Greek for "Mother of God") is the protectress of Russia. This Greek icon consists of a lithograph glued on a dark brown wooden . The halos, writings and borders are handmade, while some other parts are finished with gold in leaf. The loop on the back allows you to hang the icon on the wall without being seen. The detail of the gentle, peaceful face of Our Lady of Vladimir allows you to admire the antique look of the icon and the evocative signs of the time. The son embraces the mother and the two subjects are cheek to cheek. This portrayal is a classic example of Eleusa iconographic type and conveys a strong feeling of maternal tenderness. The background, thanks to the gold leaf finish, further emphasises the subjects of this Byzantine-style icon. The authenticity certificate on its back attests that this icon was crafted in Greece.
