Mercer Industries 206080D - 9 x 11 Garnet Paper Sheets, Grit 80D (50 pack)

This product was purchased for sanding a wooden screen house and also for use in my small home shop. The price was a good deal for the product that was made in Korea. At least it wasn't made in China. A project where sandpaper is consumed rapidly it is better to use an inexpensive product instead of spending a lot on a higher quality product. I will use the higher quality sandpapers product on a good wood project where I need a better sanded surface.

I bought for the first pass sanding on products made on a lathe. Needed something to take down the high points before moving to finer grit. The backing seems durable, but the abrasive is not very well affixed to the backing. Perhaps these would be best suited for hand sanding as anything above that wears the grit down quickly.

I was using it to sand a maple panel with a 1/4 sheet sander. I went through a full sheet and still did not finish one side. I switched to 3M paper, finished that side and did the entire other side with 1/4 sheet. The thick paper is nice but not needed for the time the grit stays sharp.

I have a 700 square foot cedar deck that needs major sanding and staining work every other year, so I go through a lot of sandpaper, mostly using a palm sander. This is a decent product, but I won't buy it again. I like that it comes in a D weight, but a 1/4 sheet of this product in my palm sander lasts less than half as long as a 1/4 sheet of the 3M paper that I also have. I don't know why, but I have repeatedly switched back and forth from this product to the 3M product, and a sheet of the 3M wins out every time.

Sanded a deck with this attached to a Makita hand sander...Good grit, but doesn't hold up super well. Good thing there were a lot of sheets in this pack.
